Central Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Sept. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education met at 6:30 p.m. on September 28, 2023 for their regular meeting in the district board office.

Following the prayer and pledge, President Kestner called the regular meeting to order. Guest present: Kayla Mock. President Kestner asked if there were any question and/or comments.

Kayla Mock shared PTO information.

• Donations were made to each school’s activity account. • Teachers can now submit receipts for reimbursements on purchases made with personal funds.

• Trash Bag Fundraiser was a big success with approximately $3,000 in profit.

• A big fall event will be held on October 27th.

There were no further questions or comments from the public and the meeting continued.

Committee Action Items

Building

• Multi-Purpose Building:

o Work in the attic should begin this week.

o Pressure test needs to be conducted.

o State approval should be completed within the next three weeks.

o Keck has a balance report left to complete.

o Bleachers have been ordered

o Wrestling practice begins November 6th.

Policy

• None at this time.

Finance

• Adopted the 2023-2024 budget.

Curriculum

• Curriculum Director

o OG Pilot – Phonics program

o JH ELA Alignment meetings taking place

• CES

o Social Emotional Curriculum –Mind Yeti is being used with Second Step for diversity.

• CMS

o AI – Lesson Planning – Magic School. AI, Chap GPT, create lesson plans, create assessments. Possible SS curriculum/unit.

• CJHS

o Wordly Wise added to 5th – 8th grade ELA.

• CHS

o Academic/Focused Homeroom – If student is failing a class they go to the focused homeroom.

• Superintendent

o IAR Scores – Formed a committee last year focusing on incentives, intentional practice, raised scores in ELA and Math significantly in every grade except one. o SAT Scores – significant increase in both ELA and Math

• Approved an agreement for legal services with Golan Christie Taglia LLP regarding UFC 2023 Tax Assessment Appeal.

Has met to discuss goal setting for students. Also discussed rewards for students.

Zak Huston – Central High School

School News:

• Homecoming was this past week. The theme this year was “Once upon a homecoming.”

• Jostens was here to meet with the Seniors for graduation orders.

• The volleyball team won the Gold Bracket at the Suns Classic. Claire Huston was named to the all- tournament team.

• The band marched at Smiles Day at Rushville on 9/15. They took 2nd in the large school division.

• Tip and Roll bleachers were purchased for the Multi-Purpose building with funds from Summerfest.  Wrestling will plan on powder coating them in black to match the theme of the wrestling area.

Upcoming Events:

• October 2nd- Josten Sophomore Ring Day

• October 13th- End of the 1st Quarter

Communication and Information from Superintendent

• The Board approved getting bids from Klingner and Associates for a new HVAC system in the Lego Gym.

• The Board approved Mrs. Smith to get bids for flooring options for the Lego Gym. • The Board authorized Mrs. Smith to apply for the School Maintenance Grant for HVAC in the Lego Gym to help with the conversion of that space into a Jr. High lunch room. • Holly Veach has volunteered to be the IASB liaison.

• IASA Compliance plus was tabled. Mrs. Smith will be going to an administrator academy and will learn more information about this topic.
