Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Greg Tippey, Board Vice President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Election of Officer

Vice President Tippey asked for nominations for office of Board President due to the resignation of Bobbi Smith. Mark Hitz was the only nomination for Board President. On a motion by Member Stevens and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Mark Hitz as president.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stevens, the Board of Education approved the agenda items as presented.

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Stevens and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the August 23, 2023 regular meeting and closed session.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Jeremy Stephens as a member of the Southeastern CUSD #337 Board of Education-filling the board vacancy for a two-year term.

On a motion by Member Bunnell and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the following committee assignments: Curriculum, Board Policy: Stephens.

On a motion by Member Stevens and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved to open the public hearing at 6:37 p.m. on the fiscal year 2024 budget.

Special Recognition

Kimberly Harrison presented the Board Excellence Awards which included the September and October Sun of the Month, Lady Suns Classic All-Tournament Volleyball Team, Beardstown JV Volleyball Tournament All-Tournament Team, West Prairie Volleyball Tournament Champions, Unity Volleyball Tournament Champions, Beardstown Volleyball Tournament Champions, 3rd Place Lady Suns Classic Tournament.

Financial

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stevens, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Lantz discussed upcoming negotiations as the current CBA expires June 30, 2024.

Superintendent Lantz presented the quote on the Bowen elementary gym air conditioning.

Administrative reports were given with Mr. Rigg reporting on the bus fleet and the need for additional buses.

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:13 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity, for the selection of a person to fill a vacancy on the school board, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the public body is given power to remove the occupant under law or ordinance.

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the employment of Brandon Gooding in the position of high school boys’ basketball head coach for the 2023-2024 school year.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education approved the employment of Eric Stotts in the position of high school boys’ basketball assistant coach for the 2023-2024 school year.
