Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Bobbi Smith, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

On a motion by Member Stevens and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the July 26, 2023 regular meeting and closed session. Roll Call Vote:

Financial

Superintendent Lantz reviewed the FY24 budget process.

On a motion by Member Bunnell and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the FY24 tentative budget as presented.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stevens, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Lantz presented the current enrollment numbers plus the last 5 years. Superintendent Lantz updated the board on the Preschool bus routes.

Superintendent Lantz discussed the opportunity of another upcoming maintenance grant. Superintendent Lantz presented the IASA Compliance Plus service.

Superintendent Lantz updated the board on the College and Career Readiness plan for the FY24 school year.

Superintendent Lantz presented the possibility of an E-sports opportunity for students. No administrative reports were given.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 6:47 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity, for the selection of a person to fill a vacancy on the school board, or the discipline, performance or removal of the occupant of a public office, when the public body is given power to remove the occupant under law or ordinance, and the discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for the purpose of school board approval of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes as required by law.

Action Items

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the 2nd reading of board policies: 2:260 Uniform Grievance Procedure, 2:265 Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure, 5:10 Equal Employment Opportunity and Minority Recruiting, 5:20 Workplace Harassment Prohibited, 5:170 Copyright, 7:20 Harassment of Students Prohibited, 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the release of the following closed session minutes for public view: February 27, 2023, March 27, 2023, April 24, 2023, June 26, 2023, and July 26, 2023.

On a motion by Member Bunnell and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Trisha Weese in the position of paraprofessional for the 2023-2024 school year effective August 8, 2023.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Kathy Ferguson in the position of bus route monitor for the 2023- 2024 school year.
