Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met Aug. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Present were Mark Dietrich, Brent Fischer, Barbara Fletcher, Steve McQueen, Mark Sorenson. Also attending were Ambulance and EMS Director John Simon, Sheriff Tony Grootens, Chief Deputy Patrick Frazier and Jill Reis, Regional Superintendent of Schools.

The meeting was called to order at 5:40 PM.

The bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

There was no speaker.

A motion to approve the minutes of the July 11, 2023 meeting was made by Mark Dietrich and seconded by Mark Sorensen, motion carried.

Department Reports

Emergency Management/Ambulance-Director John Simon

There was no EMS report.

Director Simon reported that the new agreement with the Ambulance Union was in the works and going well.

The new EMT academy is filled and ready to begin on August 28. If all graduates move on to be hired, it could potentially be enough employees to fill the staffing gap that the Ambulance Service has been experiencing.

Sheriff – Sheriff Tony Grootens

Jail: 3 New Hires: Brenda Belt, Westin Homer, Hyland Generlette

 2 Departures: Aden Evans, Suzanne Diaz

 Average Jail Population was 121

Sheriff’s Department:

School Resource Officer-with the departure of the Chief Deputy of Administration, Sheriff Grootens would like to split that salary between a School Resource Officer and a Street Crimes Officer. Jill Reis, the Regional Superintendent of Schools was on hand if needed to support the need for School Resource Officers in the County schools.

A motion was made by Steve McQueen and seconded by Brent Fischer to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:07 PM.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 5:30 PM in the ROE Conference Room.
