Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Bobbi Smith, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

President Smith asked for nominations for office of Board Secretary due to the resignation of member Sarah Kearby. Julie Stevens was the only nomination for Board Secretary.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stevens, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the June 26, 2023 regular meeting and closed session.

Financial

Superintendent Lantz reviewed the FY24 budget process.

On a motion by Member Hitz and a second by Member Stevens, the Board of Education approved to authorize the superintendent to develop a tentative budget for the FY24 school year.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved to schedule a public hearing on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 for the purpose of public information and input into the FY24 school district budget.

On a motion by Member Stevens and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved the school district’s expenditures of funds to defray necessary and proper expenses and liabilities of the school district incurred for educational or operations or maintenance or transportation or site and construction purposes of the district for FY24, until which time the

annual budget of the district is adopted in conformity with applicable sections of the Illinois School Code.

Informational Items

Superintendent Lantz reviewed the E-Learning days plan for the 2023-2024 school year.

Superintendent Lantz updated the board on the College and Career Readiness plan for the FY24 school year.

Superintendent Lantz gave Board Policy Update with the (1st reading) of: 2:260 Uniform Grievance Procedure, 2:265 Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure, 5:10 Equal Employment Opportunity and Minority Recruiting, 5:20 Workplace Harassment Prohibited, 5:170 Copyright, 7:20 Harassment of Students Prohibited, 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment.

Administrative reports were given with Mr. Kerr elaborating on the College and Career Readiness Plan options for high school students. Mr. Gooding reported on the updates for elementary handbooks and Mrs. Harrison reported on the changes for the junior/senior high handbook. Mr. Rigg reported on the new digital scoreboard.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:34 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity.
