West Central Community Unit School District #235 Board of Education met July 22.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The meeting was called to order by President Schaley at 9:10 a.m. in the Henderson County Library Conference Room. The following board members answered roll call: Bigger, Chockley, Clark, Gullberg, Schaley, and Vancil. Higgins was absent. President Schaley declared a quorum present. Also present were Superintendent Day, K. Lafary, S. Ryner, J. Kirby, J. Zaiser, Jessica Burrell, Charlotte Ackermann, Adam Boyle and Sara McVey.

APPROVE AGENDA
Motion by Bigger, seconded by Clark to approve the agenda as presented. Majority of Ayes by Voice Vote. Motion carried.
CONSENT AGENDA
Motion by Clark, seconded by Bigger to approve the consent agenda including the following items:
The minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of June 21, 2023;
- The minutes of the Closed Session of June 21, 2023;
- The payment of bills;
- The resignation of Ross Parcel as WCMS Assistant Baseball Coach;
- The resignation of Debra Paulus as a Part-time cook;
- The resignation of Hazel Ross as WCE Title Associate;
- The resignation of James Wagner as WCMS Physical Education/Special Ed Teacher.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
During the Board Retreat a discussion was held about district facilities, curriculum/instruction and staffing retention/recruitment. Board members, administrators and WCATS leadership discussed strengths and weaknesses for the district. They discussed staff responses from a survey on strengths and weaknesses that was collected during the February 17, 2023 SIP time. Participants discussed in small groups and then as a large group for each of the three topics. Information from the discussion will be brought back to the Board of Education at the next Board Meeting to set district goals for the 2023-2024 school year.
FUTURE MEETING DATE
The Board was reminded of the Special Board Meeting that will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. The regular August Board Meeting will be August 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
