Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met July 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 5:30 PM in the ROE Conference Room 

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present were Mark Dietrich, Brent Fischer, Barbara Fletcher, Steven McQueen and Mark Sorensen. Also present were Sheriff Tony Grootens, Chief Deputy Pat Frazier, and EMS Director John Simon.

The meeting was called to order at 5:40 PM.

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion was made by Steve McQueen and seconded by Mark Sorensen to approve the minutes of the June 13, 2023 meeting. Motion passed.

Ambulance/Emergency Management: Director John Simon

Director Simon reported that staffing is still down but that they have hired 3 EMTs.

He also reported that an EMT Academy will begin on August 28 for new EMT candidates.

The Emergency Management Agency is preparing for the Adams County Fair. Coroner’s Report: Coroner Scott Graham

Coroner Graham submitted a written report. During the month of June 2023 there were:

81 reported deaths

2 autopsies

0 abandoned cremation

32 cremation permits were issued.

0 suicides

Sheriff’s Report: Sheriff Grootens

Jail:

For June, the average daily population of the Adams County Jail was 129. Emma Kill was hired in the Sheriff’s Office, 2 Corrections Officers left employment. .

New Business

West Side Courthouse Security- Terry Bower will install fob readers on all of the doors on the west side. Work with the stakeholders continues.

RECON Shooting Simulator- This is a training device offered by the Illinois Training and Standards Board that would be placed at the Quincy Police Training Center on Seminary Road and made available to law enforcement agencies throughout the region. Right now, the closest one is in Jacksonville. The cost of the equipment is $135,000. Mobile Training Unit 9 is requesting $11,450 from the Quincy Police Department and the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. The Adams County portion would be $5,725 for this equipment. Brent Fischer moved that we forward the Sheriff’s request for this to the Finance Committee. Mark Sorensen seconded. Motion passed.

Resolution Number 2023-07-231-231-019- Resolution Adopting an Agreement Between the County of Adams and the Western Illinois Veterinary Clinic- This resolution provides veterinary services for all animals coming into custody of the Adams County Animal Control Warden. It commences on September 1, 2023 and ends on September 1 2028. A motion was made by Barbara Fletcher and seconded by Steven McQueen to bring the resolution to the full board for approval. Motion passed.

Business being concluded, a motion to adjourn was made by Barbara Fletcher and seconded by Mark Dietrich. The meeting adjourned at 6:37 PM.
