John Wood Community College Executive Committee met May 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met on May 11, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area. Attendees were Mr. Bob Rhea, Mr. Larry Fischer, and Ms. Paula Hawley (via Zoom) Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.

Absent: Mr. Andy Sprague

May Board of Trustees Agenda items:

Consent Agenda

o Regular Board minutes, bills, travel expenditures

o Financials April

o Approval of curriculum items

Reorganization of the Board

Mr. Rhea noted reorganization of the Board subcommittees will be appointed a at the May meeting due to the absent of two trustees from the April meeting. His selection will be:

Finance and Audit Committee – Don Hess and Dr. Randy Greenwell; serving another term

Curriculum Committee – Larry Fischer, Angela Greger

ICCTA representative - Andy Sprague; 1st Alternate – Paula Hawley

Grant

o Noted five grant submissions for May- All reoccurring grants

Personnel

o Discussed the creation of a new position entitled Dean, External Relations/Communication

o Status Change of the Grant Officer and reorganizational changes in Public Relations/Advancement department and an appointment of an interim Dean of Students/Enrollment Management

Business Agenda

o Request formation of a Decennial Committee

Discussion items

Staff Compensation – The committee heard Administration plans to implement additional staff compensation as presented by an outside consultant who analyzed all staff positions. Adjustments were calculated to account for compression.

This recommendation will coincide with the FY24 budget recommendation in June.

Board Retreat- The committee reviewed the agenda for the May 30 retreat which will be held at the Agricultural Education Center.

Commencement Ceremony –The Executive discussed this year’s ceremony and reception. Document of the program and invitation was included in the information for the Executive Committee.

Other: Board training for all Board members will be administered by legal counsel. Administration will coordinate with Mr. Rapp on months of implementation.
