Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, April 24, 2023 in the Board of Education Office (Room #126) in Augusta, Illinois. John Eilers, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Hitz and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the March 27, 2023 regular meeting and closed session.

Special Recognition

Superintendent Fox presented the Board Excellence Awards which included April Sun of the Month, FBLA State Competition, IESA Solo & Ensemble, KHQA Girls All Do or Die Team, FFA State Contest, Illinois State Academy of Science Annual Meeting.

Financial

Assistant Superintendent Lantz reviewed the monthly financial snapshot which shows we are 75% into the fiscal year. We have received 81% of our budgeted revenue and have spent 78% of our budgeted expenditures.

On a motion by Member Hitz and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox reviewed the Evidence Based Funding Formula.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the open positions for the 2023-2024 school year.

Superintendent Fox discussed the plans for the memorial money the district has received. Superintendent Fox reviewed the current bus fleet.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the $40,000 Teacher Minimum Salary.

Assistant Superintendent Lantz discussed the School Resource Officer (SRO).

Superintendent Fox discussed the Maintenance Grant Award from ISBE.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the election results.

Superintendent Fox stated the Organizational Meeting will be held May 8, 2023.

Superintendent Fox went over the End of Year dates.

Administrative reports were given Mrs. Harrison reporting on the Illinois Postsecondary and Career Expectations (PaCE) Symposium she attended last week. Mrs. Lantz reported on a DOT grant to help with the planning and development of this plan for the Southeastern high school students.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Kearby, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:32 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity and collective negotiating matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the renewal of Southeastern’s Illinois Elementary School Association membership for the 2023-2024 school year.

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Kearby, the Board of Education approved the renewal of Southeastern’s Illinois High School Association membership for the 2023-2024 school year.

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved a $4,000 increase for administration salaries for the 2023-2024 school year as presented.

The Board of Education tabled the junior high girls’ softball cooperative sports agreement with West Prairie School.

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Kearby, the Board of Education approved the following board policies (2nd reading): 2:110 Qualifications, Term, and Duties of Board Officers; 3:40 Superintendent; 4:60 Purchases and Contracts; 5:30 Hiring Process and Criteria; 5:90 Abused and Neglected Child Reporting; 5:125 Personal Technology and Social Media, Usage and Conduct; 5:150 Personnel Records; 5:170 Copyright; 5:260 Student Teachers; 6:135 Accelerated Placement Program; 6:230 Library Media Program; 8:20 Community Use of School Facilities.
