Central Central Community Unit School District #3 Curriculum Committee met April 13.
Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

2. Introductions
Eric Stotts, Ashley Aeilts, Chevi Ingalls, Brianna Hildebrand, Tracy Rhea, Leah Zeitler, Sarah Hoebing, Erica Smith
3. Curriculum Director
a. Evaluwise training
Asked for preference of formal training from the company or informal training from CMS staff. Decided on informal training from CMS staff.
b. Ordering materials/curriculum new and old
Chevi has been working with teachers to order what we’re going to continue using, find out what other needs there are, and consider any changes for next year.
c. Renaissance Renewal
There are a few changes including an added phonics program.
4. CES
a. Cindy Dollman trainings
The overall consensus is they are very beneficial. We are going to continue working with her next year.
b. Kindergarten – Ramped Up Read Aloud
c. Report Card revisions
Getting away from standards based and including a conversion chart from percentages to E, S, I, and N.
5. CMS
a. Scholastic magazine – Changing from News to SuperSTEM
Upon further discussion, going to try Scholastic News for one semester (Social Studies) and SuperSTEM one semester (Science).
b. 3rd Typing / 4th Cursive
With 3rd graders being the first year to take the IAR, which is on the computer, we are going to require actual typing/keyboarding skills be taught in 3rd grade and save cursive for 4th grade.
c. Worked on Focus Skills (+,-)
6. CJHS
a. AR
Talked about the disadvantages of AR and looking for another way to make sure kids are reading books.
b. IXL
Positive feedback, teachers are using it.
c. New Science Curriculum
5th grade will have what 6th – 8th is using.
d. Modern Classroom Style
Some teachers are using it. There is a training this summer on the topic.
e. 7/8 Social Studies Curriculum
Actually will be purchasing 5/6 and 7/8 social studies curriculum.
7. CHS
a. Vocational Career Pathway
Mrs. Hoebing shared career pathways in Ag, Finance, Arts, and IT.
b. QAVTC day-classes
We currently have 12 or 13 students that are enrolled for day classes at QAVTC next year. These classes range from Diesel Tech to Early Childhood to Health Occupation.
8. Superintendent
a. The Twin Thieves – school, parent, community
In August we will have a keynote speaker, Steve Jones, speaking to our staff on Teacher Institute day, our parents and other stakeholders that evening, and our JH and HS students on the first day of student attendance. Steve is the author of The Twin Thieves, which we have a copy of for every staff member and several community stakeholders.
