Long-time nurse recognized with DAISY award

Wilma Geisendorfer, RN, Rehabilitation Services, became the 81st Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on February 9, 2023.

She was nominated by her coworkers in advance of her retirement after 29 years of service. The nomination read in part:

“Wilma always put her patients first. She followed a moral and ethical code that was stronger than any profession could define. She is a great advocate for her patients, working to ensure her patients have the best outcomes possible. Wilma communicates well with the therapists and all members of the rehab department.”

“She had a key role in helping the department achieve national CARF (rehabilitation) accreditation. Wilma handled all the changes in health care in her almost 30 years of service with positivity. She helped newer staff navigate all the changes. Thank you, Wilma, for all you have done for us!”

Wilma spent her entire nursing career on the Blessing Hospital Rehabilitation Services unit. She became a nurse later life, after working as a hair dresser.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,800 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
