Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present were Barbara Fletcher, Steve DeMoss, David McCleary and Mark Sorensen. Also present were Coroner Scott Graham, Sheriff Rich Wagner and EMS Chief John Simon.

The meeting was called to order at 6:04 PM.

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2022 meeting was made by David McCleary and seconded by Mark Sorensen. Motion passed.

Coroner’s Report: Coroner Graham

Coroner Graham reported that during the month of September 2022 there were:

63 reported deaths

1 autopsy

1 abandoned cremations

31 cremation permits issued

0 suicides.

Sheriff’s Report: Sheriff Wagner

Jail:

Sheriff Wagner reports that the jail population is currently at 109 inmates.

One new Corrections Officer was hired in October, his name is Heath Andrews.

Sheriff’s Office:

The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting their second annual Trunk or Treat event on October 27. This event will take place on the streets surrounding the Courthouse. To date, 15 departments have signed up to participate.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with John Simon and Jessica Douglas on the degradation issues with our current VHF analog radio platform. Motorola technicians have been onsite this month testing and checking the hardware at our radio tower sites.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind this Committee of the need to purchase new mobile and portable radios for our officers. Our officers appreciate the support we have received from Board Members on this radio upgrade project

Ambulance/Emergency Management: John Simon

Chairman Fletcher thanked Mr. Simon for the tour of the County Ambulance facilities that he and Ms. Frese gave to Mr. Sorensen and herself. They both found it very educational.

Director Simon offered kudos to Sheriff’s Deputy Sam Smith for offering a great

debriefing after the accident on US 336 to the public.

He reported that staffing is still down, there are 7 in the current class, and they have brought on 3 from the last course, but they are still down 7 people.

Business being concluded, a motion to adjourn was made by Steven DeMoss and seconded by David McCleary. The meeting adjourned at 6:50 PM.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 6:00 PM in the ROE Conference Room.
