Quincy Public School District 172 Board of Education met Oct. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting Convened

The Board of Education of School District No. 172, Adams County, Illinois, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m. in the Board of Education Office, Room 214, 1416 Maine Street, Quincy, Illinois, in said school district.

Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by President Arns, who directed the secretary to call the roll. On the call of the roll, the following members were present and answered to their names: Members Ali, Arns, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members were absent: Member Brock. Whereupon the President declared a quorum was present.

Moment of Silence

President Arns declared a moment of silence and reflection in memory of Mike Creek, security guard and for the victims of the St. Louis Central Visual and Performing Arts High School shooting.

Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mary Griffith.

Questions and Comments

President Arns opened the meeting to questions and comments to members of the Board, by members of the public and employees of the district, in compliance with state statutes. There were none.

Consent Agenda

It was moved by Member McNay and seconded by Member Ali to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

a. Treasurer’s Report – September 2022

b. Minutes –September 21, 2022 & September 27, 2022

c. Check Register and JH/SH Activity Fund Reports

d. Acknowledge receipt of the Freedom of Information Log: September 17 through October 21, 2022 (Information Only)

On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Arrival of Member Brock

Member Brock arrived at 6:10 p.m. which was duly recorded by the Board Secretary. Reports of the Superintendent

Conferences. Parent teacher conferences are ongoing, and teachers are striving for 100% parental contact.

SIUE Community Healthcare Worker Donation. QPS was awarded $25,000 through an anonymous donor to support our SIUE Community Healthcare Worker program.

Distinguished Board Leader Awards. Dr. Pettit recognized Member Nichols and Member Whitfield with the Distinguished Board Leader Award.

District Highlights. Superintendent Pettit celebrated good news in the district by highlighting accomplishments and activities in high school girls golf, junior high and high school cross country, high school girls tennis, high school trap, high school boys soccer, marching band, music students, cheerleading, high school Beta Club, high school girls volleyball, high school leadership classes and high school football. Golfers Saya and Issa Geisendorfer along with Gabriel and Nicole Gold coordinated a Birdies for Brain Cancer fundraiser in honor of the Gold’s late father Dr. Mark Gold.

Building Committee

The Building Committee did not meet.

District Improvement Committee

Chairperson Arns presented the District Improvement Committee report. The committee reviewed Fall reports including summer school data, teacher retention and ISBE curriculum updates.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee did not meet.

Policy Committee

The Policy Committee did not meet.

Consider/Approve Regional Safe Schools Program MOU Agreement

It was moved by Member McNay and seconded by Member Ali to approve the Regional Safe Schools Program MOU Agreement (Doc. Reg. No. 3783). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Executive Session

At 6:16 p.m., it was moved by Member Brock and seconded by Member McNay that the Board suspend the rules and go into executive session to discuss a) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the School District; b) collective negotiating matters between the School District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; g) student disciplinary cases; j) attorney/client privilege; k) approval of certain closed session minutes for distribution to the public; or other matters appropriate for a closed meeting pursuant to the Open Meetings Act. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Resumption of Rules

It was moved by Member Petty and seconded by Member Arns to resume the conduct of the regular meeting under rules. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Student Discipline

It was moved by Member McNay and seconded by Member Brock to adopt the recommendation regarding pre-expulsion agreements for one QJHS students and four QHS students and the expulsion for one QJHS student and one QHS student. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Executive Session Minutes

It was moved by Member Arns and seconded by Member Ali to approve the Resolution Authorizing Executive Session Minutes for Public Release from April 27, 2022 through September 21, 2022 and Authorizing Destruction of Records Closed Session more than Eighteen Months Prior to March September 21, 2022 (Doc. Reg. No. 3784). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Revised Personnel Addendum

It was moved by Member McNay and seconded by Member Ali to approve the Revised Personnel Addendum. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Adjournment

At 8:04 p.m., it was moved by Member McNay and seconded by Member Arns that the regular meeting adjourn. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Brock, McNay, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.
