Quincy Public School District 172 Board met Aug. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting Convened

The Board of Education of School District No. 172, Adams County, Illinois, met in special session on August 2, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. in the Board of Education Office, Room 214, 1416 Maine Street, Quincy, Illinois, in said school district.

Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by President Ali, who directed the secretary to call the roll. On the call of the roll, the following members were present and answered to their names: Members Ali, Arns, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members were absent: Member Brock and Member McNay. Whereupon the presiding officer declared a quorum was present.

Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Ali.

Resignation of Office of Board President by Member Ali

President Ali presented Board Secretary Wert with a letter of resignation as Board president. Member Nichols presented Member Ali with a plaque to honor his seven years of service as Board president.

Acknowledgement of Vacancy in Office of Board President by Presiding Officer Vice-President Arns acknowledged the vacancy in office of Board president. Questions and Comments

Vice-President Arns opened the meeting to questions and comments to members of the Board, by members of the public. There were none.

Election of President for Remainder of Board Term Until April 2023

It was moved by Member Ali and seconded by Member Nichols that Member Arns be elected as President of the Board. On the call of the roll for the election of Member Arns as president, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: Member Brock and Member McNay. Whereupon Member Arns was elected President of the Board for the remainder of board term until April 2023.

Acknowledgement of Vacancy in Office of Board Vice-President

President Arns acknowledged the vacancy in office of Board vice-president.

Election of Vice-President for Remainder of Board Term Until April 2023

It was moved by Member Arns and seconded by Member Nichols that Member Petty be elected Vice-President of the Board. No further names being placed in nomination; nominations were closed. On the call of the roll for the election of Member Petty as vice-president, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: Member Brock and Member McNay. Whereupon Member Petty was elected Vice-President of the Board for the remainder of board term until April 2023.

Adjournment

At 4:06 p.m., it was moved by Member Whitfield and seconded by Member Nichols that the special meeting adjourn. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Nichols, Petty, and Whitfield; and the following members voted Nay: None; and the following members were absent: Member Brock and Member McNay. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried and the special meeting was duly adjourned.
