Adams County Public Health & Safety Committee met May 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

At 6:00 PM in the ROE Conference Room Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present were Barbara Fletcher, Steven DeMoss, David McCleary and Mark Sorenson. Also present were Coroner Scott Graham and Ambulance Chief John Simon .

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion to approve the minutes of the April 13, 2022 meeting was made by Steven DeMoss and seconded by Mark Sorenson. Motion passed.

Sheriff’s Report: Email Report from Sheriff Wagner

Sheriff Wagner reports that the Sheriff’s Department has received a check from the Illinois Department of Corrections in the amount of $345,000 for holding IDOC inmates during COVID. The check has been deposited to the County General account.

Sheriff Wagner sends his appreciation to the County Board for considering his requests for ARPA funding for ballistic vests and Correction Officer overtime.

Coroner’s Report: Coroner Graham

Coroner Graham reported that during the month of April 2022 there were:

84 reported deaths

4 autopsies

1 abandoned cremations

41 cremation permits issued

1 suicides.

Coroner Graham reports that the numbers are at about average. He reports that there has recently been an increase in drug overdoses due to methamphetamine.

Ambulance/Emergency Management: Chief John Simon

Their call volume continues at approximately 20 some calls per day. This is about average.

Ambulance Service staffing is at 95%. They are down a couple of people. The Hancock County agreement is going well. They are experiencing some staffing shortages as they are only at about 65% staffing.

Business being concluded, a motion to adjourn was made by Steve DeMoss and seconded by Mark Sorenson. The meeting adjourned at 6:25 PM.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 6:00 PM in the ROE Conference Room.
