Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session in the Board of Education Office (Room #126) in Augusta, Illinois. John Eilers, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the agenda items as presented.

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Hitz and a second by Member Kearby, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the January 24, 2022 regular meeting and closed session as presented.

Special Recognition

Superintendent Fox presented the update on the Board Excellence site including: Culver Stockton Science Fair ratings, Advanced to Wrestling Sectionals, 1000th Career Basketball Point, Selected to Play in the Central Illinois Sports All Star Basketball Game, Abingdon Great Western Shootout MVP, Hancock County Tournament MVP, KHQA Student Athlete of the Week, Selected to present in the Illinois Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, FBLA Area Conference, Central Volleyball Tournament Champions, 2nd Place at the Quincy High Volleyball Tournament, IHSA Class 1A Regional Champions, February Sun of the Month, Recommended for State FFA Degree, Jim “Red” O’Flaherty Player of the Year. Superintendent Fox congratulated the players and all involved in the boys’ high school basketball program and for winning regionals which Southeastern hasn’t done since 1996.

Financial

Superintendent Fox presented the monthly financial snapshot showing we are 58% into the fiscal year. We have received 87% of our budgeted revenue and have spent 58% of budgeted expenditures.

Superintendent Fox presented the Financial Profile Score of 3.90 out of 4.0.

On a motion by Member Hitz and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox reviewed the New School Laws 2022.

Superintendent Fox informed the board that Southeastern did not qualify for the Property Tax Relief Grant. Superintendent Fox stated that the Non-Resident Tuition Waiver was approved.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the 2021-2022 school calendar.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the Property Casualty bid process.

Superintendent Fox explained the new high school initiatives concept.

No Administrative reports were given.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Smith the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:10 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; and for collective negotiating matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; and for the discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for purposes of school board approval of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes as required by the Act.

Action Items

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the release of the following closed session minutes for public view: December 16, 2013, October 24, 2016, September 30, 2019, August 9, 2021, November 3, 2021, December 13, 2021, and January 24, 2022. Roll Call Vote:

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the 2022 high school graduation date for Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Southeastern Junior/Senior High School at 2:00 p.m. Roll Call Vote:

Aye: Tippey, Winters, Eilers, Hitz, Holst, Kearby, Smith

The home school request regarding extra curriculars was discussed with no action taken at this time.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Terri Tobias in the position of high school assistant science club sponsor effective immediately. Roll Call Vote:

Aye: Winters, Eilers, Hitz, Holst, Kearby, Smith, Tippey

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Hitz, the Board of Education approved the employment of Tecia Lantz in the position of assistant superintendent for the Southeastern School District for the 2022-2023 school year.

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the employment of Brandon Gooding in the position of elementary principal for the Southeastern School District for the 2022-2023 school year.
