West Central Community Unit School District #235 Board of Education met Jan. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by President Schaley at 5:00 p.m. in the Elementary Cafeteria. The following board members answered roll call: Arnold, aye; Bigger, aye; Clark, aye; Lenahan, aye; Lumbeck, aye; Schaley, aye; Vancil, aye. President Schaley declared a quorum present. Also present were Superintendent Markey, K. Lafary, J. Zaiser, J. Peters, A. Wolf, K. Lumbeck, K. John, J. Evans, P. Bigger and N. Clark.

RECOGNITION OF AUDIENCE REQUEST FOR PRESENTATION

John Evans addressed the Board during the Comments for the Public Section of the agenda, supporting Karla John's conduct on the night of the music concert on December 14, 2021.

HEARING OFFICER

Motion by Bigger, seconded by Clark to appoint President Schaley as hearing officer. Roll call: Arnold, aye; Bigger, aye; Clark, aye; Lenahan, aye; Lumbeck, aye; Vancil, aye; Schaley, abstained. Motion carried.

VISITOR DISCIPLINE HEARING

Administration presented exhibits, and they were admitted into the record. Karla John presented no exhibits.

The administration made an opening statement. Karla John made a statement on her behalf.

Amy Wolf, WCES 4th grade teacher, made a statement regarding the events that occurred in her classroom and in Hallway B on December 14, 2022.

Kathy Lafary, WCES Principal, made a statement regarding the events that occurred in Hallway B on December 14, 2022.

Superintendent Markey made a statement regarding the events that occurred in Hallway B on December 14, 2022.

The administration made a closing statement. Karla John made a closing statement.

ACTION ITE

It was moved by Arnold, seconded by Lumbeck to adopt the Resolution Reference the Denial of Admission to School Property as presented. Roll call: Lenahan, aye; Lumbeck, aye; Vancil, aye; Arnold, aye; Bigger, aye; Clark, aye; Schaley, aye. Motion carried.

ADJOURNMENT Motion by Lumbeck, seconded by Bigger to adjourn at 6:02 p.m. The vote was unanimous. Motion carried.
