Quincy University issued the following announcement on Sept. 10
Quincy University’s associate professor of mathematics, Abdallah M. Talafha, Ph.D., and Henri Schurz, Ph.D., professor of mathematics at Southern Illinois University recently co-authored an article entitled “Uniqueness, and Energy of Approximate Fourier Solutions of Modified Stochastic Sine-Gordon Equation with Power-Law Nonlinearity in 1D.” The article was published in the International Journal of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM), in August 2021.
In this paper, Talafha and Schurz analyze properties of the solution of modified stochastic Sine-Gordon equation with power-law nonlinearity and homogeneous boundary conditions on the one-dimensional domain by the Eigenfunction approach that allows us to truncate the infinite-dimensional stochastic system (i.e., the SDEs of Fourier coefficients related to the SPDE), to control its energy, existence, uniqueness, continuity and stability of approximate solutions on an appropriate Hilbert space.
Talafha teaches courses in algebra, geometry, statistics and calculus. He has written several research papers and presented at conferences. His areas of interest include stochastic analysis, partial (ordinary) differential equations, real analysis and measure theory and probability theory. Before coming to QU, he served as an assistant professor and department chair at Culver-Stockton College and taught high school math in Ammon Jordan. . He earned his bachelor’s and master’s in mathematics from Zarqa Private University in Jordan and his doctorate in mathematics at Southern Illinois University.
The International Journal of Applied and Computational Mathematics is a broad-based journal covering all branches of computational, applied and numerical mathematics. The objective of the Journal is to publish original research in applied and computational mathematics. The Journal is intended to provide a forum for the expression of new findings and ideas as well as to disseminate knowledge through exposition of interdisciplinary subjects.
Founded in 1860 by Franciscan friars, Quincy University is a small Catholic university emphasizing the sciences, liberal arts and the professions. Quincy University offers undergraduate, graduate and adult education programs integrating practical experience and Franciscan values. Faculty and advisors work with students to design customized success plans to help them graduate on time, find their passion and prepare them for life.
