Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on May 7.
Kendra Meany, BSN, RN-BC, manager, Nursing Professional Development, Blessing Hospital, received the 2021 DAISY Transformational Leader award during a ceremony on May 6, part of the National Nurses Week celebration at Blessing.
While the DAISY award is presented monthly to a staff nurse who delivers extraordinary care, the Transformational Leader award is presented annually to recognize those who role-model caring behaviors and the impact of their leadership on staff and the patient care they manage.
Among the accomplishments sited in the nomination submitted on Kendra’s behalf was the leadership she exhibited during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which occurred almost immediately after she accepted the role of Nursing Professional Development manager.
The nomination read in part, “Kendra not only learned her new role as quickly as she could to support the team, but she activated her team to create and deliver cross training education to over 300 Blessing employees to work as nurses and nursing support staff on the inpatient units as we prepared for the surge in census caused by COVID. She also partnered with Infection Prevention to produce and cascade daily educational content to the health system as the pandemic unfolded and we learned new information every day.”
“Kendra is a natural leader, and leads her team with kindness and role models what ‘exceeds expectations’ means. She is a joy to work with and has the compassion and caring spirit that shines through in all encounters,” the nomination concluded.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,500 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
