Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Apr. 15.
Donors to the Blessing Foundation Caring Club recently helped a family who lost everything, but the clothes on their backs, in a house fire.
The family has a young daughter who requires a wheelchair that was destroyed in the fire. The Blessing Foundation learned of this tragedy from a concerned community member.
Due to the generosity of its donors, the Blessing Foundation was able to respond quickly to reach out to the family with a solution, and then respond to their need.
A loaner wheelchair was secured from Denman Services’ Hannibal Medical Supplies store until measurements for a new chair could be taken by staff at Advance Physical Therapy in Hannibal. Then, a properly-fitted chair was acquired from Denman’s Adaptive Mobility Systems store. Caring Club funds covered all costs: the rental of the loaner pediatric wheelchair, the custom wheelchair evaluation, and the new custom fitted wheelchair for the little girl.
Caring Club donation are available to help address any unmet medically-related need of an area resident, if there is no other source of assistance available to them.
