Registration for the 2021 Blessing Health System Dogwood Parade is now open to additional 2021 participants. Businesses and organizations that signed up for the parade last year do not need to register again but may need to update registration. The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to welcome back the annual Dogwood Weekend to celebrate our beautiful, historical dogwoods and the Hero in all of us! After everything our community endured last year, the theme this year for the Blessing Health System Dogwood Parade is “Celebrating the Hero In All of Us.” The parade will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 9:20 am on Maine Street.
Parade participants are encouraged to use the theme to show how their businesses and organizations pivoted for their clients/members, continued to connect to their community and to the world.

Dogwood Parade Float Prizes
Three prizes will be given out for the most creative use of the theme:
- The Mary Lou Kent Theme Award is for the float with the best use of the parade theme.
- The Governor’s Award goes to a float that’s larger than 10 feet in length and uses the theme.
- The Mayor’s Award goes to a float that’s 10 feet in length or shorter and uses the theme.
Quincy is one of the northern-most communities in the nation where Dogwoods can be grown. Following an effort by a local service club in conjunction with the Garden Club, the city boasted of a good number of the beautiful trees and was featured in an article in “Flower and Garden” magazine. Mary Lou Kent, who worked at the Chamber at that time, decided the Chamber should organize a Dogwood Festival to promote Quincy and tourism in the city when those trees were in full bloom. The first Dogwood Festival was in 1969. Mary Lou Kent went on to become a state legislator.

Thursday, April 29
• TBA p.m., Little King and Queen of Dogwood Pageant, Quincy Mall Center Court.
• TBA p.m. family-friendly block party at St. James Lutheran Church.
Friday, April 30
• Noon – 1:15 p.m., Concert in the Plaza, First Mid-Illinois Bank Plaza next to St. Boniface Church. Between 6th and 7th on Maine St.
Saturday, May 1
• 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Quincy Farmer’s Market opens in Washington Park.
• 9:20 a.m. Blessing Health System/GatesAir Dogwood Parade, 24th and Maine, proceeds west to 6th St.
