John Wood Community College Board of Trustees Executive Committee met March 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Executive Committee met at 8:00 a.m. in room C252. Attendees were Ms. Diane Ary, in-person, Mr. Bob Rhea via Zoom, and Mr. Larry Fischer in person, trustees, Mr. Michael Elbe, president and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.

President Elbe discussed items from the March 17, 2021 Board meeting agenda.

Business items: No business items for March. The College catalog will be presented at the April meeting.

Presidential evaluation will be held in closed session.

Discussion items:

Blessing /QMG discussion - The executive committee discuss the letter submitted to QMG as requested for their future facility and healthcare expansion. The College was contacted the letter was categorized as a letter of support and the College had the option of sending clarification letter of neutrality. The executive committee decided to leave it as it stands and put the authority, review and decision in the hand of the review committee to make the best judgement for our community.

JWCC Spring Enrollment Update - The Spring enrollment numbers were shared with the Executive committee. According to ICCB the average change throughout the state in headcount from last spring was ( -15.3%). JWCC decrease( -3.4%). JWCC ranked 5th out 48 community colleges in terms of % change. Only two community colleges showed an increase in headcount.

The average change in state credit hours from last spring was (-14.3%) JWCC reported (-5.8%) decrease. We ranked 6 out 48 community colleges. No schools reported an increase in credit hours.

CARES/CRRSAA/Round 3 government funding- The College has received funding from these entities. Guidelines and restrictions apply. Administration is examining the requirements thoroughly to distributed funding as allowed.

EDA Grant/WDC Expansion – The College received notification for additional information in regards to the EDA grant. This is the fifth request the College received for additional documents. It is anticipated to still be six months before any notification of confirmation will be received.

Board Election and Protocol Letter - The Board has a protocol letter that is shared with new trustees upon being elected and reviewed with existing trustees. The committee reviewed this letter with only minor changes. This protocol letter will be discussed at the Board retreat.

Orr Corporation/Multi-Purpose Facility - Darin LaHood has been invited to the Ag Center on Monday, March 15. The intent of the visit is to tour the facility and allow the Orr Corporation and proposed new multi-purpose facility plans to be shared with the legislator.

Spring Board Retreat – Administration proposed having the Spring Board retreat on Wednesday, May 26. The Executive Committee discussed topics to place on the agenda. A “draft” agenda will be included in the table folder.

Other

Trustee Request - A trustee inquired on in-person attendance at Board meetings and the vaccination percentages. The Executive Committee recommended following CDC guidelines and allowing each member the ability to choose their method of attending at this time.

HLC multi-purpose site visit - Two separate multi-purpose site visits are scheduled with an HLC reviewer. The Ag Center visit is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16 and the Southeast Education Center visit is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24.

Campus Density Reduction Plan - This plan is scheduled to end on Monday, March 15. No remote work. All employees will return back to campus.

Personnel Item – A personnel item was shared. No further discussion will be held on the subject.
