Quincy Medical Group (QMG) is among a select group of medical facilities in the country to participate in a limited launch of the WaveWriter Alpha™ portfolio of Spinal Cord Stimulator systems. The WaveWriter Alpha™ is the latest advancement in chronic pain therapy from medical technology company Boston Scientific.

QMG physicians Dr. Brian Anderson, Neurosurgery, and Dr. Albert Singh, Interventional Spine and Joint Wellness, were chosen among physicians in just a dozen other cities in the country to participate in the launch, giving local patients early access to this new technology.

“The new product offers a brand new type of stimulation that is currently cutting edge and never used before in the field of spinal cord stimulation,” explained Dr. Singh. “Currently, no other product on the market has the ability to offer this new programming.”

Participating in the limited launch of the WaveWriter Alpha™ allows QMG to provide local patients with this innovative treatment option weeks ahead of the majority of the country.

Spinal cord stimulation is used most often after other pain treatment options have failed to provide relief from chronic pain. Spinal cord stimulators require two steps: the first to test the device, or the trial, and the second to implant the device.

“The conditions best treated with this device remain the same: patients who have previously had back surgery but continue to have pain, patients who do not get better with conservative treatment and are not considered to be good candidates for conventional spine surgery, people with any neuropathic type pain (e.g., diabetic neuropathy, shingles pain — also called post herpetic neuralgia, complex regional pain syndrome, chemotherapy induced nerve pain), neck or back pain, pain radiating into the arms or legs,” said Dr. Singh.

Spinal cord stimulators are currently offered as a treatment at QMG by both Dr. Anderson and Dr. Singh, along with their colleague QMG Neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Gold. With the introduction of the WaveWriter Alpha™ and its advanced technology, patients are experiencing even more positive outcomes.
