BLESSING HEALTH SYSTEM: Blessing program helps people put the “C” in CNA

Healthrecap

Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

The first “class” of employees has completed the Blessing Hospital Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Training Course.

Daelin DeWeese was in the class.

“I am going into the healthcare profession and this is definitely what I feel like I needed to do to begin my career with Blessing,” she said.

Because of the Blessing Hospital CNA Training Program, people applying for CNA positions do not have to be “certified.” If they are hired, they receive classroom education and clinical experience during their job orientation that prepares them to take the state CNA examination. The employee is responsible to pay the state exam fee, but the education is no cost and part of employment – the employee gets paid to learn.

“This program creates healthcare workers,” said Jonna Egan, RN, CNA Training Program coordinator.

“A month ago, students in the first class had not, necessarily, ever worked in any form of healthcare. Now, they are ready to work with patients,” Jonna concluded.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics says that overall employment of CNAs is projected to grow 8 percent through 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the baby-boomer population ages, nursing assistants will be needed to help care for an increasing number of older patients.

A CNA helps patients with activities of daily living and other healthcare needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Becoming a CNA can be a worthwhile, fulfilling career goal for a person, or it can be the first step in a healthcare career.

Daelin’s career goal is to become a nurse practitioner.

“Getting this training was so beneficial and I am blessed to have had this opportunity,” she concluded.
