BLESSING HEALTH SYSTEM: Blessing Hospital opens three new floors of Moorman Pavilion

Healthnews

Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Oct. 14.

Dozens of new single bed rooms are now available to patients of Blessing Hospital as three new floors in Moorman Pavilion opened the week of October 12.

Floors 4 through 6 of Moorman Pavilion add 66 new single bed rooms and 12 rooms known as “flex” rooms, which can be double or single bed rooms, depending on patient census.

Floor 4 will house pediatric and women’s health patients. Floor 5 will house general medicine and observation patients. Floor 6 will house general medicine and oncology patients.

The opening of the new rooms also brings an important resource to the region at this time.

“A dozen of the new single bed rooms are negative pressure rooms,” said Maureen Kahn, president/chief executive officer, Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital. “Negative pressure rooms are for patients with suspected or confirmed respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and the flu. This is an important addition to the hospital’s capacity as we head into the fall and winter months of the pandemic.”

Opening of the new floors and rooms will not add to Blessing Hospital’s licensed bed capacity, as some rooms in the original patient tower are being taken out of use for renovation. Blessing Hospital’s licensed bed capacity remains at 327.

Moorman Pavilion opened in 2015, featuring three inpatient floors housing Blessing Hospital’s inpatient behavioral units and 52 general medical surgical single bed rooms. At that time the fourth floor was left as open space, available for future expansion with the option to build two more floors on top of it.

Blessing Hospital also offers five floors of inpatient rooms in its original patient tower, opened in 1970. Last year, Blessing experienced more than 15,000 inpatient visits.
