BLESSING HEALTH SYSTEM: Quincy healthcare providers join forces to raise money for breast cancer patients

Fundraising event

Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

A team of Quincy healthcare providers, all men, have come together for a critical mission: To raise $5,000 by October 31, to donate to the American Cancer Society breast cancer services. The effort is called “Real Men Wear Pink,” and Rob Johnson, MD, board-certified radiation oncologist at Blessing Hospital, and Medical Director of the Blessing Cancer Center, is a team member.

“I have dedicated my life to helping cancer patients,” Dr. Johnson said. “Being a member of this team and helping to raise money for breast cancer services is another way I am proud to help.”

Quincy’s Real Men Wear Pink team members will wear pink during October, while raising their donations. People interested in making a donation online can go to http://main.acsevents.org/goto/quincy.

The American Cancer Society’s services to breast cancer patients includes funding research. The Society is currently funding more than 160 grants for breast cancer research, totaling $67 million. Funds also go to direct patient services, like the Reach to Recovery program through which breast cancer patients receive one-on-one support from fellow breast cancer survivors.
