Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.

Hilary Davis, RN, One Day Surgery, became the 54th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award. She received the award during a ceremony on September 29, 2020.

Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.

Hilary was nominated by the daughter of an 88-year-old man to whom she provided care before and after his lung biospy, during a week when he underwent other medical tests and was exhausted. The nomination read, in part:

“I don't think it’s just one thing she did, but the whole time she was so pleasant and helpful with whatever Dad’s issue or need was,” the daughter wrote. “She was patient and kind and completely put him at ease during a very difficult time. I have seen many nurses while helping both my elderly parents through many years of tests and hospital stays. Hilary stood out to me in my dad’s tough journey.”

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,000 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/patients/recognize-team-member.
