Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Aug. 28.

Adam Bailey, surgery support tech, became the hospital’s 24th Honey Bee Award winner during a surprise presentation on August 27, 2020. The Blessing Hospital Honey Bee award recognizes the remarkable patient experience delivered by support staff employees.

Diana Weatherford, RN, open heart surgery, nominated Adam for his care of a patient with dementia who was preparing to undergo surgery.

“She clung to Adams hand the entire time she was in the holding area, prior to going back to the operating room for her surgery. Adam never left her side. He stayed there with her, comforting her as she was somewhat distressed,” the nomination read.

“It seems like such a small thing to stand there with a patient and comfort them, but Adam’s willingness to go above and beyond and stay there with her was such an act of kindness and compassion. He wanted to be there with her, to comfort her and make her feel better. I believe his presence truly did help alleviate her fear and anxiety,” Diana concluded.

The Honey Bee Award complements the hospital’s DAISY Award. While the DAISY Award is for RNs, the Honey Bee Award is for support staff because, “you can’t have daisies without outstanding honey bees.”

Each Honey Bee Award honoree is recognized during a presentation. They receive a certificate, a tray of sticky buns, cookies and a jar of local honey. The local honey signifies the role support staff plays in extraordinary patient care and customer service; they are the “sticky” honey that binds us together.

Honey Bee award nomination forms are located on all nursing units and other locations throughout Blessing Hospital and at https://www.blessinghealth.org/recognize.
