John Wood Community College Board of Trustees Executive Committee met Aug. 17.

The Executive Committee met at 1:00 p.m. in room C252. Attendees were Ms. Diane Ary, Mr. Bob Rhea (via Zoom) and Mr. Larry Fischer trustees; Mr. Michael Elbe, president and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.
August Board Agenda Items
August Board of Trustee agenda items were discussed. Items under consent agenda:
Grants – three grants are being presented for acceptance of funds. The funding will be used for CTE program improvement, Perkins Postsecondary Career and Technical Education, and TRIO Student Support Services.
Lab Fee – approval is being requested for a lab fee and program fee range for Diesel Technology.
One Business item:
Transfer of funding from Operating funds to Operation and Maintenance Restricted fund RE: $951,959.70.
Personnel
Employee telecommuting - With increase of COVID-19 cases surging, discussion continues on employee telecommute options. At this time, the Board Executive Committee is not recommending to the Board of Trustees to approve a board policy regarding remote working for employees.
Discussion items:
Convocation - Fall faculty convocation was held on Thursday, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. via zoom. Sixty-seven (67) faculty participated. Keynote speaker was Ms. Betty Coonrod from the Adams County Health Department. President Elbe shared an updated enrollment report at the meeting.
Graduation - Graduation for class of 2020 was held on Friday, August 14. Fifty-seven (57) students participated in the ceremony. This included College for Life students.
Fall Board Retreat – Fall Board retreat is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23. It was determined to be a half-day retreat to be held in the morning until noon. Location to be determined. The Executive Committee requested topics from previous year’s retreats be shared with all to help to determine an agenda. A list of these topics will be provided to all Board members. The committee’s recommendation is to invite Mr. Phil Conover has the keynote speaker. Details will continue to be finalized.
Student Trustee recognition – Administration is reaching out to invite Ms. Macyn Seaver to a Board meeting to recognize her contributions as student trustee last year. Due to COVID-19 she was unable to attend her last meeting for this recognition.
Enrollment Update – The committee heard ICCB sent a summer and fall enrollment report
All 48 Illinois community colleges submitted information. Nine colleges reported an increase in summer enrollment compared to enrollment numbers from one year ago; 39 colleges reported a decrease. One college reported an increase in fall registration from enrollment numbers one year ago; 47 colleges reported a decrease
