Cost of college went up for all students at John Wood Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.1 percent for 2018-19 at John Wood Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $8,190 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $90 more than the $8,100 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid the same amount as residents this year, or $8,190. Their price tag grew 1.1 percent from $8,100 in 2017-18.

About 89 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. About 9 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 222 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.1 million and 91 students took out student loans totaling more than $404,090.

Including all undergraduates (1,924), 1,443 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.6 million, and 472 students took out $2.2 million in federal student loans.
