Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met June 16.

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.
Committee members present: Seldon Totch, Mark Peter, and Becky Weed
Ryan Niekamp was present. Bob Reich, Brian VonderHaar and John Simon present on ZOOM.
All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.
Our committee approved minutes of May 19, 2020 meeting.

Sheriff Dept -- Brian Vonderhaar
On 6/13, Sheriff’s Office moved 86 inmates from the old jail facility to the new jail facility. The move was completed without incident. The entire Sheriff’s office is now working out of the new facility. Every inmate classified by offense, was scanned on the new X-Ray scanning machine, and was issued color coded jumpsuits before being moved to assigned pods based on offense category.
Current inmate population is 6/16/20.
Effective 6/28/20, we will promote one corrections officer to deputy and hire a lateral transfer to a deputy position. This is to fill vacancies in our patrol staff due to recent resignations.
Sheriff’s Association has filed lawsuite against the Govenor and the State of IL on behalf of the counties holding state prisoners.
DOC does not currently have a plan in place to accept their prisoners.
It is recommended that Dr Meyer be reappointed as Rabe Administrator for another 2 year term as her prior term has expired.
Emergency Management – John Simon
John cleared up a question on credit card charge from last month. A finance charge was miscoded as cash advance.
Coroner — John Myers & Scott Graham
For the Month of May 2020
There were 60 reported deaths.
There was pme autopsy.
There was one new abandoned/unclaimed cremations.
There were 32 cremation permits issued.
The final “Abandoned/Unclaimed Human Remains Disposition Policy” was referred to Legislative and Judicial for final approval and referral to the full board.
