The following minutes are tentative and will not become official minutes of the Board of Education until their scheduled approval at the next regular meeting.

Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, June 22, 2020 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. John Eilers, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the May 11, 2020 regular meeting. Roll Call Vote:

Public Participation

Special Recognition

Superintendent Fox reviewed the board excellence list which includes Class of 2020 Valedictorian, Salutatorian, scholarship recipients, State Agri science Fair Division National Entry, University of Illinois Agri Science Fair Top 10, ICTM Math Award Recipient, National Choral Award Recipient, JWCC Presidential Scholarship Recipient, 2020 Golden Apple Scholar, John Phillip Sousa Band Award Recipient, All State Honors Choir, FFA State Degree Recipient and announced the 2019-2020 Board Excellence Student of the Year Award is Isaac Weese. Superintendent Fox listed Isaac’s accomplishments.

Financial

Superintendent Fox reviewed the monthly financial snapshot which shows we are 92% into the fiscal year. We have received 88% of revenue and have spent 82% of the estimated budget.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox presented the Tuition Waiver Requests from Southeastern employees for the 2020-2021 school year.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the Capital Watch which states the general assembly has approved the state budget with level funding FY21. All schools will be closed on election day November 3, 2020.

Superintendent Fox presented the 2020-2021 School Year Game Plan with more to come after guidance from ISBE.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the 2020-2021 School Calendar.

Superintendent Fox discussed the 2021 School Board Election to be held next spring. Superintendent Fox presented the details of the applications of the COVID 19 grants that Southeastern has applied for.

Superintendent Fox discussed the preparations of Southeastern for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Superintendent Fox reviewed the open positions for the 2020-2021 school year.

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved the bid of Kohl Wholesale (bread), a firm bid of Prairie Farms Dairy (milk), and the firm premium bid of West Central FS Petroleum (fuel) for the 2020-2021 school year

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the non-certified starting salaries and substitute salaries for the 2020-2021 school year as presented.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education approved the FY21 School Improvement Plan as presented.

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved the FY21 District Risk Management Plan as presented.

On a motion by Member O’Neal and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education approved the insurance renewal of Liberty Mutual for Worker’s Compensation, Liberty Mutual for School Board Legal, Liberty Mutual for the Treasurer’s Bond, Zurich for the Blanket and Catastrophic Student Accident, Liberty Mutual for Property/Casualty for a total premium of $113,807.00.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Lorree Kerr in the position of 6th grade teacher effective August 10, 2020.

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Kenzie Orris in the position of long-term substitute and bus loader/monitor for the 2020-2021 school year

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the employment of McKenzie Allison in the position of elementary teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

On a motion by Member Smith and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:36 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity and collective negotiating matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.
