QUINCY MEDICAL GROUP: QMG Recognizes National Cancer Survivors Day with “If These Sidewalks Could Talk”

Cancer

Quincy Medical Group issued the following announcement on May 28.

Who would imagine that chalk could be so powerful? Over the past couple months, sidewalk chalk has been used to create beautiful messages and pictures lifting spirits throughout the country. The messages and drawings created have provided signs of hope for so many.

Quincy Medical Group (QMG) plans to use the power of chalk to mark the annual National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, June 7. On this day, QMG is inviting community members of all ages to create drawings or write messages in support of cancer patients and survivors on their sidewalks and driveways.

QMG Director of Community Relations Laura Tenhouse said “If These Sidewalks Could Talk” is a way to honor the journey of our local cancer patients. The idea was inspired by last year’s event, “If These Walls Could Talk” held at the QMG Cancer Institute. For that event, the doors to the QMG Cancer Institute were opened, prior to completion of the facility, to allow patients, their families, and community members to write inspirational messages on the unfinished walls.

“At ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ we saw how much the written words left on the walls meant to patients who have gone through the emotional and physical toll of a cancer diagnosis,” Tenhouse shared. “Most importantly, patients and survivors felt the love of their community. We want to extend that support to them again this year, when their struggles have been compounded by the coronavirus pandemic, and invite our community to share their messages of encouragement from wherever they are.”

All those who participate in “If These Sidewalks Could Talk” are invited to share pictures of their sidewalk messages.

Here’s how it works:
