The Quincy City Council is asking Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker to alter the state's reopening plan.

According to WTAD, the City Council is proposing three changes to the Restore Illinois plan, including smaller regional zones, shorter times between phases, and changing the start date from May 1 back to March 20 for calculating the phases.

"We're going to have villages and cities in Hancock County do the same," Mayor Kyle Moore told WTAD. "Hopefully, the governor will listen to reason."

As of June 20, Illinois reported 136,104 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 6,625 deaths. Hancock County has had just 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In other business, Moore told WTAD that the union representing Quincy police officers may have a different position on proposed raises. As a result, three officers could lose their jobs.
