Relief is on the way for six Quincy small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 economic shutdown.

City aldermen approved a Downtown Small Business Stabilization Grant Application that involves six businesses during a city council meeting.

KHZQ reported the businesses were Second String Music, Thyme Square Café, Quincy Audiology, V.W. Fundraising, Domestics Etc., and Expressions by Christine.

The State of Illinois has set aside $20 million in federal funds designed to provide relief for small businesses within the state struggling underneath the weight of COVID-19. The six businesses will apply for $25,000 in grant funding that is reimbursable. Eligibility for the grant is limited to businesses with 50 employees or fewer. Upon reception of a grant, the business is expected to remain open or reopen as soon as possible using the funds for daily operating expenses.

The grant applications have been forwarded to the state. It is expected to take 30 days for processing of the application and a decision.

Businesses interested in applying for the grant are encouraged to contact city offices.
