Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing issued the following announcement on April 13.

Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences in Quincy received approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to offer a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care and a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science.

“Both respiratory therapists and radiologic technologists are in high demand. Moving these programs to bachelor degrees allows students to gain additional technical and critical thinking skills that will enable them to be extremely marketable,” said Brenda Beshears, PhD, President/Chief Executive Officer, Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences. “We are excited to be able to assist in fulfilling these vital positions in our region by expanding our health sciences offerings.”

The Respiratory Care program was previously an Associate of Science degree program at Blessing-Rieman, while the Radiology program was formerly a certificate program at Blessing Hospital. Blessing-Rieman will now offer both disciplines as four-year Bachelor of Science degree programs.

Students will apply as freshman for the fall 2020, and take general education courses as well as pre-requisite courses at the partner institutions, Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO and Quincy University, Quincy, IL. They also have the option of taking courses as freshman at John Wood Community College and transfer to Blessing-Rieman as sophomores.

Students will begin Respiratory or Radiology courses at Blessing-Rieman in the fall of 2021, during their sophomore year. Both programs include on-campus courses as well as a variety of hands-on clinical experiences around the Quincy area.

For more information on either program, visit our website at www.brcn.edu or call admissions at 217-228-5520, ext. 6949.
