John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Feb. 19.

The Executive Committee met on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in the office of the President. Attendees were Mr. James Gay, Ms. Diane Ary, Mr. Bob Rhea and Mr. Larry Fischer (via phone) trustees; Mr. Michael Elbe, president and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.
February Board Agenda Items
February Board agenda items were discussed. Highlighted were the IGEN grant submission and acceptance. Business items included approval of tenure for five faculty members, approval of summer hours, revision to Board Policy 512 – Drug Free Workplace, approval of *NJCAA E-Sports, approval to retain the audit firm of WIPFLi, LLP, authorization and awarding of an auditorium sound system, consultation support to the THG Advisors for the Water Nexus program and a solar heat and solar photovoltaic trainer for the HVAC program. The last item was authorization to enter into an intergovernmental agreement and lease with the University of Illinois regarding the Orr Research Farm.
*The committee received bullet points on IGEN’s Water nexus initiative.
*A summary of the E-Sport initiative was shared. It provided an action plan, timeline, resources needed, and projected outcome.
Discussion Items
CEO Program - The committee read a letter from Shawn Rennecker regarding a discussion that was held at a recent Pike County CEO program board of directors meeting on the upcoming decision by JWCC on the cost of dual credit to DEO students and the impact it could have on future participation of the program. In the letter 3 reasons were cited as to why it should be continued. The committee discuss this topic and recommended funding of 25%.
Knapheide Initiative - JWCC and Knapheide have recently held 3 meetings with leadership and employees of Knapheide to work collectively on an automation initiative for their business.
GREDF/Chamber of Commerce - President Elbe informed the committee he is currently the chair of GREDF and the Chamber of Commerce for this current year.
48th Street Coalition - A meeting has been scheduled on campus for Friday, February 21 @ 3:00 p.m. to provide an update on the 48th street project. Key community leaders will be in attendance.
Compensation Plan - Administration has been working on an updated compensation plan. A component of the plan includes longevity adjustments. It is anticipated the plan will be brought to the board prior to the budget adoption.
Board Retreat – Draft agenda was shared with discussion on additional agenda items. Draft agenda will be shared with board at February board meeting for additional input.
Enrollment Report - Ten day numbers for spring showed credit hours at 18,137 compared to 17,917 last spring. Head count is 45 less students. Enrollment is up 1.2%
Kinscherff Center - The Kinscherff Center is being listed with All Phase Property Solutions, LLC with agent John Mast.
Other
•Staff Strategic Planning retreat is scheduled for March 20. Initiatives have been submitted.
•Board Strategic Planning retreat is May 6.
•Hall of Fame and Ag Banquet are scheduled for February 15.
•Distinguished alumni of the year is scheduled for February 29 with Andy Bastert being nominated and selected by the selection committee.
•QPS referendum/forums are scheduled on our campus February 24 and March 12.
•ICCTA West Central Trustee meting @ Spoon River Community College is March 16 @4:30.
•Mr. Fischer suggested that the past chair submit the slate of officers to the Board members for consideration upon election of new officers.
Personnel
Resignation and Incident Awareness - Both items were discussed with the Executive Committee and is deferred to closed session
President’s Evaluation - President Elbe requested to revise his evaluation timeline. This request is due to a request of him to speak to Blessing leadership development session on the same date. A revised timeline was shared and recommended. A copy will be provided in the table folder.
