Superintendent’s Comments:
In March is the time to renew the IHSA membership, which has no cost. Also, at this meeting the proposed calendar for 2020-21 is approved. Under normal conditions, we would finalize the current school calendar, as bad weather days have generally ceased. However, we are going to delay this task until April, as we see what unfolds with COVID-19 and school closings. Hopefully, we will be back in session soon and on track with the proposed calendar for 2019-20, which then can be finalized. Hang in there!
Another item that will need board approval is the senior trip. The seniors had set up a schedule to go to Branson, Missouri from April 29-May 1, 2020. However, nothing has been officially booked due to the closing of schools. This trip may be delayed or changed depending on the entire length of the school closings in Illinois. The school board tentatively approved the trip.
A public hearing was held to amend the FY20 school budget. Then the school board approved the amended budget. This business is usually conducted in June of each year. It was approved early this year because of changing to a new financial management software system at the beginning of April.
As for COVID-19, I have been sharing everything I can about any updates, so I probably do not need to dwell on this. However, please check staff email and listen to the news, so you can stay current on the latest updates regarding this pandemic virus.
