Adams County Public Health & Safety Committee met January 21

Adams County Public Health & Safety Committee met Jan. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present: Seldon Totch, Robert Reich and Becky Weed, Mark Peter and Steve DeMoss

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

Our committee approved minutes of December 21, 2019 meeting.

Department / Representatives:

Sheriff Dept – Chad Downs

• Jail population was 118 this day.

• A new school deputy has been hired and 2 interviews for 2 corrections officers to fill vacancies.

• ERT Team – State team that responds to prison/jail riots, inspected facility looking for any safety concerns. They were very impressed with the layout and technology.

Emergency Management – John Simon

• Mitigation plan grant -- $66,000 grant. Early indications are that the grant will be awarded to us. This will be a joint program between the City and county to mitigage damage to infastructure. Ie—water treatment plant.

• Flood reimburesement meetings 1/21/20. Numbers were not yet firm but it is looking like we will recover requested amounts.

Coroner — John Myers

 For the Month of December 2019

• There were 67 reported deaths.

• There were a total of Six autopsies.

• There were one new unclaimed/indigent cremations.

• There were 27 cremation permits issued.

The committee voted to move our meeting start time from 7 pm to 6:30 pm.

Our meeting adjourned at 7:20 pm.
