Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) asked residents on her official Facebook page on July 18 to report any damage caused by spring and summer flooding to local authorities in order to assist Illinois in qualifying for federal aid.
“Earlier this week, the Governor asked residents around the state to assess any damage they received from local flooding, and report it as soon as they can to officials at their counties’ emergency management agencies,” Tracy said. “This information is needed to determine if the state will be eligible to receive recovery funding from the federal government.”
Those who are requesting federal assistance must submit a formal request by Aug. 3, the 30-day mark since the last impacted river fell below the major flood stage. Illinois Emergency Management Agency formed teams to assist with the damage assessment process in order to help county citizens properly fill out assistance request forms.
Residents and business owners can submit an online initial damage report via an official website created by the State of Illinois. All submissions will be sent to the appropriate county emergency management agency for further handling.
