Former state university employee Schrand paid in $14K to pension fund, could collect $198K in retirement

Former state university employee Thomas Schrand, who retired in October 2016, saved $13,916 toward a pension over 2 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Schrand would collect as much as $197,761, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Quincy Reporter.

The projection assumes Schrand received $4,156 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Schrand will have already received $17,387 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
