City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.
Meet Laura Oakman, our Deputy City Clerk. In April, she will reach her 38th Anniversary with the City. Laura began her career with the Quincy Police Department. A window was part of the reason she was drawn to the position as Deputy Clerk, 22 years into her career.
As the deputy clerk she serves as a back up to Jenny Hayden, City Clerk. Their office is responsible for all council proceedings both at the meetings and behind the scenes. They insure that the City follows all municipal rules and regulations. The Clerk’s office also offers hunting and fishing licenses.
Laura enjoys the people and the customers she faces each day at her job. She works very hard to stay up to date with things happening throughout the city, new State Statues, and tries to help the aldermen and the department heads make decisions. When she first became Deputy Clerk, the City Council meetings made her nervous, but she always likes to try to lighten the mood when she fills in for Jenny. She has greatly enjoyed her time in the city, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
