City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.

Mayor Kyle Moore announced today his appointment of Jeff Mays to serve as Interim Director of Administrative Services.

"The ideal candidate for the Director of Administrative Services would bring a mix of legislative and executive experience to the job. The Director of Administrative Services works closely with the Mayor, the City Council and the team of directors to implement a shared vision that serves as the blueprint for delivering efficient and effective city services and to implement policies to enhance the quality of life for our residents and business community." Mayor Kyle Moore continued, "Jeff Mays’ unmatched service to Quincy and the state of Illinois will no doubt serve him well in this role."

Jeff Mays recently completed four years of service to the State of Illinois by serving as the director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security an agency with a $195 million annual budget and 1,150 employees, Under Mays’ leadership, the department implemented technology upgrades that saved tax payers over $250 million in payments of fraudulent unemployment claims, enhanced access to unemployment claims by placing the claims process online, and connected job seekers and employers by emphasizing online offerings such as Illinois Joblink and Learn More- Earn More.

Moore also stated, "Jeff is one of the most respected public servants in Quincy and in Illinois; he’s represented the voice of the business community and worked in a bi-partisan manner to pass meaningful legislative and regulatory reform. Few candidates could bring his depth of experience to this role and I look forward to what we can accomplish together."

Mays previous legislative experience includes service as a State Representative for five terms and Vice President of the Quincy School Board. His executive level experience includes President of the Illinois Business Round Table for sixteen years and Vice President of Human Resources and Executive Vice President of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

"For two decades I’ve had a career that took me away from my home and family each week. No complaints…These were great jobs and I had total family support. During my current career transition, Mayor Moore reached out to me to see if I would be interested in working closely with the city council and agency heads to put together the next city budget and implement the new strategic plan." Mays added, "I am both humbled by the request, and looking forward to this challenge."

Mays will begin his term on March 4th, 2019 and serve for 180 days, after which, his appointment would need to be confirmed by the City Council. He will earn an annual salary of $75,000.
