CITY OF QUINCY: City Council made a decision regarding garbage and recycling

Recycle

City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Feb. 1.

The Council tabled both the resolution and the ordinance regarding Yard Waste Pick-up. Council will vote on Yard Waste Collection in 2 weeks.

Beginning May 1st, curb-side collection of recyclable materials (Corrugated cardboard/container (chip) Board, Newspaper, Magazines, Junk Mail, Tin Cans (rinsed), Plastic containers (bearing #1 or #2) – must be emptied and rinsed, office paper, used beverage cans) will be an opt-in service. If you opt-in, you will have a monthly $5 charge added to your City water/sewer utilities bill. If you do not have utilities through the City, you can still opt-in and you will receive a separate bill with the $5.00 monthly fee. The orange totes will be replaced for those opting into the program.

Also beginning May 1st, the cost to dispose of garbage will increase. Blue stickers will continue to be sold at a cost of $0.75 until the supply is exhausted. Red stickers will be available once the supply of blue stickers runs out. Red stickers will cost $1.50 each. Large disposable bags, over 16 gallons, will cost $3.00 each and require 4 blue stickers or 2 red stickers. A small disposable bag, up to 16 gallons, will cost $1.50 and require 2 blue stickers or 1 red sticker. Only blue or red stickers will be accepted. Your garbage will need to be in a container of your choice.

Customers who prefer may opt-in to the City TOTE program for a flat fee of $12.99/month. This charge will appear on your City utility bills. The cost for the City Tote for each resident interested is $60.00. This amount may either be paid upfront or the tote cost may also be added to your City utility bill. Garbage must be placed in bags and fit inside the tote, but no stickers are required.

Let us know your thoughts on yard waste below!

Would you rather take your Yard Waste to a drop off location or have curb side pick-up? Should we offer weekly or bi-weekly service? Should we have a flat rate or a cost per bag? What is a reasonable charge per bag?

Thank you for your feedback.
