Central Community Unit School District 3 Board met Dec. 20.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
The Board of Education met at 7:00 p.m. on December 20, 2018 for their regular meeting at Central High School located in Camp Point.
Following the prayer and pledge, President Moore called the meeting to order and introduced our guests: Emily Obert, Sharon Knorr and
FFA Members Dustin Steinkamp, Breanna Bowen, and Lane Ippensen.
Christmas gifts were given to the board members from the FFA and Dustin Steinkamp gave a presentation on the 2018 Ag Plot.
President Moore asked if there were any questions and/or comments from the public. Hearing none the meeting continued. The current agenda was approved.

Building
• The building committee met on December 12th.
• The new exit at the Junior High/High School is complete and signs are up.
• There was discussion on possibly adding more parking.
• The committee met with the architect to draw up plans for roof replacement in areas at the high school. Plans are to have the these by mid-January, receive bids by mid-February and to start on replacement by June 1st.
• The new phone system is in the process of being installed at the junior high and high school.

Old Business • The board acknowledged the following:
•Dustin Steinkamp was selected as the December Senior of the Month.
•Lane Ippensen was selected to the Pittsfield All-Tournament Team in Basketball.
•Cole Williams was selected to the All State Football team.
•Noah Strohkirch Honorable Mention All-State Football and Academic All-State Football

New Business • The board approved to establish a district Charitable Needs Activity Account.
Superintendent Report • Mr. Cook attended the Health Insurance Coop meeting on December 10th.
• Panther Pride met on December 7th. The Panther Pride announced a $500 Ag Scholarship in memory of Garrett Springer by his family Administrator Reports

Chevi Ingalls - Central Middle School
• Nov. 9- Student Leadership Team served at CMS Veteran’s Day Lunch
• Nov. 21- The 4th Grade Timeline was a success.
• The teachers are using Simple Solutions as a resource for math, which they have found to love. They are using the resource for extra math in the classroom during their morning routine. The Simple Solution workbooks are part of a pilot that we signed up for. The teachers are reporting great ways to record what the students are doing well in. Plus, they can see where to dedicate more time.
Eric Smith - Central Junior High
• On November 9th, we had over 50 veterans attend our Bring a Vet to School assembly. Several guests shared their appreciation and said it was the best one yet! We raised enough money for 2 X 4’s for Hope to build 4 tiny homes.
• The Leadership class decorated doors at the nursing home for Veterans Day.
• In Mrs. Hildebrand’s PE class every Monday for four weeks students took part in the Be a Friend First program. It is a proactive approach on how to treat others and resolve conflict. It is funded by a grant through United Way and led by the Program Specialist from Girl Scouts.
• Several homerooms collected money and purchased gifts for a child for the Farmers State Bank Gifts for Children Program.
• 5th – 8th grade homerooms decorated 12 trees for the Golden Historical Society Tree Decorating Contest.
• 5th - 12th grade Christmas Concert was held December 5. Mr. Adelman, Miss Mueller, and the band and choir students put on a very nice performance.
• The Junior High and High School Christmas Concert was on December 4th. It was a lively and exciting concert.
• On December 7th, the 5th grade Entrepreneurship store was open for business. The kids raised enough money to donate $257.57 to Homeward Bound Waggin’ Animal Shelter and $306.42 to Moments that Matter/ Unity Point Hospice.
• Mrs. Shoopman’s and Ms. Kestner’s classes had a book drive to give to Farmer’s State Bank.
They will use them for the Gifts for Children Program.
• The Leadership class sponsored a bake sale to purchase personal care items and collected items to be donated to the Advocacy Network for Children. All items purchased and donated will benefit children entering foster care.
Martin Cook - Central High School
• The Christmas Concert was held on December 4th to a packed house. The students did an outstanding job and treated to Mr. Adelman running around the gym juggling during the Christmas at the Circus number.
• On Monday the staff of CHS took time to recognize Mr. Long for reaching the 500 win milestone in coaching girls’ basketball.
• The boys and girls basketball team along with CMS held fundraising activities for Brody Hamilton.
Brody is a 3rd grade student at CMS who has ties with members of both the boy’s and girl’s teams.
They were able to raise over $16,000 for this cause.
• 5 Essential surveys will be given to all staff and students between now and February 15 for the required state survey. Data was collected from parents during Parent-Teacher conferences earlier this year.
• 138 students met the semester exam exemption criteria for the first semester. The intent of the exemptions is to reinforce the traits that we want to see in all of our students. These traits are to earn good grades, have good attendance, and demonstrate good behavior. We feel these traits are important to develop in our students and this semester seems to have been successful in helping do that. A student can exempt out of up to four classes this semester. To be exempt a student must have:
o Earned an “A” or “B” in that class
o Been absent two or fewer grades
o Received two or fewer demerits
