Superintendent’s Comments:
Tax Levy
The Liberty School Board made the decision to keep the tax levy the same as it has been of $3.94. There will be an increase in funds due to the Equalized AssessedValue of property. It was important to the school board that they not over-burden taxpayers. On another note, the school board agreed to let the Superintendent apply for a grant from the State of Illinois that could give the tax payers a tax relief of about $613,115. This would be a one-time decrease in the Tort Fund. If the grant is awarded, the school district would be given $533,964, which would become a part of the Evidence-Based funding in the future for Liberty. Liberty CUSD is rated 806 out of 868 schools in need of a tax relief. Our likelihood of receiving this tax break is pretty slim. However, it can’t hurt to apply!
School Improvement Goals
School Improvement Goals were developed and documented by each building’s Instructional Team. We are excited to have a team of staff from both the elementary building and the junior high and high school working on this with the principals. The more perspectives on this and buy-in, the better chance of success for improvement in our district.
New Opportunities
Some discussion took place on how to reach all students, from the at-risk of dropping out of high school, to those who might be high achievers and possibly gifted students. A proposal was made to begin a Bass Pro Fishing Club, which is being piloted for one year in 2018-19.
