BLESSING HEALTH SYSTEM: Blessing Hospice nurse earns DAISY award

Award

Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

Molly Schulte, RN, Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care, became the 34th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award.

Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.

Schulte was nominated by the family of a patient to whom she provided end-of-life care.

“Molly Schulte, RN, has been a godsend to us through the dying process of our father. She explained everything and helped guide us though each phase. She answered calls and texts to answer all of our questions even when she wasn’t working or on-call. She was very compassionate with the entire family and helped ease us through our own journey. Molly always put our minds at ease with a gentle touch, the right words or a hug. She had a very calming effect on our family. She encouraged us to live and enjoy life and to talk about dad’s life.”

Schulte received a certificate, DAISY Award recipient pin, hand-carved stone sculpture entitled, “A Healer’s Touch” sculpted in Africa specifically for DAISY Award recipients, and a DAISY Award banner to display in her department.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and online here.
