Central Community Unit School District 3 Board met November 8. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The Board of Education met at 7:00 p.m. on November 8, 2018, for their regular meeting at Central High School located in Camp Point.


Following the prayer and pledge, President Moore called the meeting to order and guests were introduced: Kaleb Smith, Director at WCR/Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center, Audrey Shanholtzer, and Karen Hull. Kaleb Smith explained the program at QAVTC to the board and the vocational opportunities that are available to students, as well as professional development for teachers.

President Moore asked if there were any questions and/or comments from the public. With no further questions or comments, the meeting continued and the current agenda was approved.

      • October 18, 2018, Board Minutes

      • November Bills

      • Treasurer’s Report

Committee Action Items

Building

      • IDOT has approved a new entrance for in the Junior High parking lot and work will begin shortly.

      • There was also discussion about work needing to be done on the roof at the high school.

Policy

      • The board approved the Second Reading/Adoption of Policies 2:242 regarding revisions to the current drug policy.

Finance

      • The finance committee met on November 5, 2018.

      • The 2018 Tax Levy of 6.75% was presented and put on display.

      • There will be a Truth in Taxation Hearing on December 20th at 6:45 p.m. in the board office.

Curriculum

      • The next meeting will be on November 15th.

      • Mr. Cook discussed the data on the School Report Card and commended our district for a job well done! CES, CMS and CHS all received “Commendable” ratings. Our Junior High School was the only school in Adams/Pike County to receive an “Exemplary” status. Schools receiving a “Commendable” or “Exemplary” rating from the state are not subject to state intervention for school improvement. “Underperforming” and “Lowest Performing” are the two lowest school designations and require state assistance. Great Job!

Old Business 

      • The following acknowledgements were made:

           Noach Strohkirch was named October Senior of the month at Central High School.

           Laney Lantz was awarded a full ride scholarship to Quincy University.

           Kendra Obert, Dacey Shore, and Lauren Gille were recognized by the West Central Conference for the All-Conference Honorable Mention in Volleyball.

           A “thank you” note was read from the family of Phyllis Farlow for the flowers that were sent for her funeral.

           A “thank you” note was read from Randy Albers for the flowers & condolences during the passing of his mother.

New Business 

      • The CrisisGo Ap will be available to all staff during a crisis situation to help account for students and staff more quickly. Details are still being worked on, but nearly complete. Staff will be advised and trained when this becomes available.

Superintendent Report 

      • Principals will have non-tenured teacher reports for the December board meeting.

      • There was good attendance for the Parent-Teacher conferences on November 1-2.

      • Title I plan has finally been approved by the state.

Administrator Reports

      November 16th – second quarter midterms…………. November 22nd and 23rd Thanksgiving Break

      • Eric Stotts – Central Elementary School

             November 21st - Kindergarten Play 1:00 PM

      • Chevi Ingalls – Central Middle School

            Relay for Life Pumpkin Contest - Teachers brought in pumpkins, and throughout the week, the students put money in the buckets of their favorite decorated pumpkin to raise $208.66 for Relay for Life. At the end of the week, the pumpkins were given to the students.

            Scholastic Book Fair - Raised enough money for our teachers to spend $757.08 with Scholastic Dollars. It was divided amongst all 8 teachers. Plus, the library was given money to replace or add to the collection.

            Box Top Submission ($70.70) -Our next collection is a competition with the classes. The class that brings in the most Box Tops will win a free pizza party.

            November 15- Scotties Fun Spot Night (PTO)

            November 20- Ag in the Classroom

            November 21- Timeline for 4th grade (9:00-11:00)

            November 21- Early Dismissal at 2:00

            November 29- Mobile Dentist (student restorative care)

      • Erica Smith – Central Junior High School

            Bring a Vet to School is Friday morning – we will be honoring 63 veterans.

            December 5th - JH/HS Christmas Concert 7:00 p.m.

            December 7th - The 5th grade Entrepreneurship Store 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

            Teachers gave a presentation to 5th graders on the significance of grades. We realized that 4th grade was the first time they actually received letter grades and many of them might not understand how they determine promotion to the next grade level.

             Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Altenhein are having combined classes about once a month to bring Social Studies, Science, and Reading Informational Text together for a unique learning experience for the students.

      • Martin Cook – Central High School

            FFA attended National Conference in Indianapolis.

            The football team advanced to the state quarter finals against Triopia this Saturday.

            5 Essential surveys were given to parents during parent teacher conference last week to increase the parent participation rate for the survey. Student and staff can take the survey beginning November 15th.

            December 4th - Christmas Concert 7:00 p.m.

Executive Session 

       Held at 8:36 p.m. and returned to open session at 9:30 p.m.
