Trophy1000px

Blessing Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 12.

Blessing was honored to receive a plaque from Great River Honor Flight program leaders. In the photo from left to right are Dr. Kurt Leimbach, Great River Honor Flight board member; Maureen Kahn, President/CEO, Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital; and Dr. Kathy Asbury and Carlos Fernandez, Honor Flight board members.

The health system recently purchased an oxygen concentrator, with the help of its affiliate Denman Services, Inc., to be used by Honor Flight veterans during the trips.

Over the past decade of the program, Denman has donated wheelchairs for use by veterans touring the war memorials in Washington, D.C., on each of the 51 flights made to date, and oxygen concentrators as needed by those making the trip.

Health system physicians and Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences faculty and students have also volunteered on Honor Flights.

The number of veterans who have participated in Great River Honor Flights is nearly 1,700. More than 200 veterans are on the Great River Honor Flight waiting list.
