CITY OF QUINCY: Snow Removal

Snow(1000)

City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.

The City has 12 trucks, with two 12 men crews. They are able to work 24 hours, with each crew working 12 hours.

The crew starts with the Snow Emergency routes, and then moves to side streets then subdivisions. They do not do alleys.

The timing and their process all depends on the type of snow and the weather.

Whether they just salt, where they salt or if they do both all depends on the type of snow, and what the weather is doing.

Each route is about 100 miles, so it takes time, but they are trying to get to every street in a timely manner.

The City always has two “snow runners” that are always ready with salt in them to go out in case of a situations like an overpass being slick.

The crew works had to clear the streets and keep the roads as safe and clean as possible. Here are a few things to remember:

Be patient

Remember to stay back at least 100 feet when following a truck.

Avoid putting the driver in situations where they need to stop quickly.

If you do have a problem please call Central Services at 217-228-4520. If no one answers, leaves a message. Your message will be sent to both the director and assistant director.

Here at the City we appreciate our snow crews, and the endless job they do to keep our citizens safe when the weather gets bad.
